Khalif Rhodes is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. In addition to a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley School, he received a Legal Law of Masters in Corporate Law and Finance (LL.M.).
Mr. Rhodes began his career as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Leo Bowman, at the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, Oakland County, Michigan. Judge Bowman’s docket consisted of criminal, civil, and family law matters. In the infancy of his career, he observed first-hand the importance of being effective, efficient, fair, and impartial.

Prior to taking the bench, he was in private practice. He handled bankruptcy, personal injury, business and corporate compliance matters. Mr. Rhodes formed The Rhodes Firm, PLLC, because of his desire to bring justice and satisfactory outcomes to those in need of legal services.
In his current role as Chief Magistrate, he is afforded the unique opportunity to preside over a District Court docket. During his appointment, he has rendered judgments to thousands of cases. As a public servant, he enjoys the community interaction and is honored to fairly serve the citizens of Mecklenburg County. In addition to his court docket, he is a Truancy Court Judge. He participates in a program that assists Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The deferred prosecution program provides both parents and students a healthy interaction with the judicial system. Finally, Mr. Rhodes was an Adjunct Professor at the Charlotte School of Law. He lectured on the topics of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
Mr. Rhodes is a leader in the community. He devotes his time and energy to groups that make it their mission to help the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County grow as a community. Mr. Rhodes is an active member of The Empowerment Center Church in Huntersville, NC. Also, he is an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc. Understanding and appreciating the importance of having access to a quality education Mr. Rhodes is a current member of the board of directors for S.T.A.R.S Math & English Academy. Mr. Rhodes is also a member of the Mecklenburg County Domestic Violence Fatality review board. Finally, Mr. Rhodes is a member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Group (CJAG). He is a former board member of the Mecklenburg County Commissioner’s Small Business and Entrepreneurial Advisory Board. As a former small business owner, he provided insight on issues that affected small business owners. Mr. Rhodes is passionate about raising awareness in the areas of homelessness, sexual abuse and domestic violence victims, and youth offender crimes. Because of his passion to bring awareness, Mr. Rhodes sits on the planning committee to bring a Family Justice Center to Mecklenburg County.
Growing up without much, his family instilled the values that helped him become the person that he is today. From a young age, he learned the value of being involved in his community and a obtaining a good education. He met his wife as they were both Union Organizers in Philadelphia, PA. They both attended and graduated law school together and have been married for 12 years. Together they have 4 children: Khalif Jr., 9; Camille, 7; Cimone, 4; and Corinne, 3.
Through hard work, education, and a great investment of time, he strives to become a leader in the legal profession and a valuable member of his community.
Together with his family, the decision was made to take this journey to the next phase. It is through faith and a love for his community that he now moves ahead and asks for your support. This is not just his journey – it is all of ours.
